McLaren 675LT: This is it

An image of the more hardcore, track-biased 496kW McLaren 675LT has been leaked overnight. Still want that Ferrari 488GTB?

Dutch website www.autogespot.nl has leaked an image that appears to be the production version of the new McLaren 675LT that was supposed to be unveiled next month at the Geneva motor show.

Created to sit above the current 478kW 650S and below the 673kW P1 hypercar, the new 675LT gets its name from the 675hp (496kW) it produces from its twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8. The ‘LT’ part of its name is short for long tail - referencing to the McLaren’s more aerodynamic elongated rear deck. It also pays homage to the old McLaren F1 GTR Longtails that raced at Le Mans in the nineties.

Created to be more track focused and hardcore than the 650S the, still road-legal, new McLaren supercar is said to be 100kg lighter than the 650S its based on. The weight savings come from the addition of new lightweight components like a new titanium exhaust.

Thanks to the new aero package the 675LT is also said to produce up to 40 per cent more downforce than the 650S.

Performance figures haven’t been released but the lighter 675LT is expected to even be quicker than the 3.0 seconds it currently takes for the 650S to sprint to 100km/h. Top speed, meanwhile, is expected to exceed 340km/h.

Pricing also hasn’t been confirmed by the British car maker but, with a limited run of just 250 cars, the 675LT could be priced as much as double the $441,000 McLaren currently charges for its 650S coupe.

Deliveries are planned later this year.
