McLaren P1 GTR takes on F1 GTR

Track-ready P1 supercar duels with McLaren's original F1 GTR ahead of its world debut next week

McLaren has released a cracking new video of its racetrack-only P1 GTR supercar on track with its spiritual successor – the original F1 GTR – just days before its global premiere at the Geneva motor show on March 3.

The limited-edition $3.5 million P1 GTR production car will appear at the Swiss show two decades after the F1 GTR scored four of the top five places in the 1995 Le Mans 24-Hour and – in honour of the F1 GTR chassis #06R – will wear a retro yellow and green paint scheme.

Weighing 50kg lighter than the street-legal P1, the GTR slams out 735.5kW (more than 1000hp) from its twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 and a 150kW electric motor combination. It's also 90mm wider and 50mm lower than the road car, which also generates 10 per cent less downforce.

The F1 GTR will debut at Geneva alongside McLaren's 496kW 675LT, which will be positioned above the limited-edition, 100kg-heavier, 478kW 650S and below the standard 673kW P1 hypercar.
