McLaren’s P1 GTR race track-only hypercar is being made road legal by a small British supercar specialist Lanzante, because of demand from some of the 40 owners who bought the P1 GTR earlier this year.
The $3.5 million, 736kW P1 GTR was originally for exclusive track days held at private track days at some of the world’s best race circuits but the lack of numberplates has proved too frustrating for some.
Announcing the new race car-to-road conversions in British car magazine, Autocar, Lanzante boss, Dean Lazante said:
"We will be tackling all conversions on a case-by-case basis," said Dean Lanzante. "What we do will depend on where the customer wants to run the car and what the regulations are in that region. But whatever we do it will always be done sympathetically; the GTR has been built to be a step beyond the P1, we're trying to keep as much of that spirit as we can. It will still be lighter, have more power, better aero and so on."
Work on the first P1 GTR conversion begins this June for an undisclosed sum.
According to Autocar, the next-generation P1-replacement follow in the slick tyres of the P1 GTR and be track-only because of future legislation that will clamp down on extreme hypercars.
