McLaren's 911 rival sideways
British super car brand reveals first image of its new entry-level McLaren Sports SeriesThis is our first look at an all-new entry-level McLaren designed to take on top-end versions of Porsche's dominant 911.
Released by the British supercar-maker overnight via social media, the single teaser image shows a camouflaged coupe sideways at speed on a racetrack.
No new details have been provided but, as we've reported, the new model is codenamed P13 and publicly dubbed the McLaren Sports Series, suggesting it will comprise a number of model variants.
The Sports Series will be a major part of McLaren's growth strategy in Australia, where it will be positioned below both the 650S (from $441,500) and the 12C, which remains available at $398,000, likely making it the brand's most popular model.
It will debut at the 2015 Geneva motor show next March, before going on sale globally as a direct rival for supercars like the 911 Turbo (from $366,500) and the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT, priced in the low to mid-$300,000 range.
Like other McLarens, the Sports Series will be based around a carbon-fibre chassis and a mid-mounted V8 engine, but the cheapest McLaren will be less powerful than the 478kW/678Nm twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 found in the 650S.
