Megane to the masses

The cheapest turbodiesel, dual-clutch offering in the segment, Renault’s new Megane dCi hatch range is set to make an impact when it goes on sale here from September 30.

Priced at $27,490 (MRLP) for the entry-level Dynamique or $32,490 (MRLP) for top-spec Pivilege, Megane dCi is offered with a strong but efficient (81kW/240Nm) 1.5-litre engine mated exclusively to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Renault says the newcomer is good for 4.5L/100km on the combined cycle. CO2 emissions are 117g/km (Euro5 compliant). Furthermore, to celebrate the model launch, Renault will offer 2.9 per cent finance and three years free scheduled servicing for all cars bought before the end of October, 2011.

Entry-level models are fitted as standard with cloth trim, a single-CD tuner with USB connectivity, auto lights and wipers, dual-zone climate control, fog lamps, Bluetooth telephony and audio streaming, as well as cruise control with speed limiter function.

Up-spec Privilege adds leather upholstery, satellite navigation, premium Arkamys audio package, rear parking sensors, an electric tilt/slide glass sunroof and is available optionally with bi-xenon headlamps ($1490).

Both models see metallic paint attract an additional charge of $800.

Renault passenger vehicles, including Megane dCi variants, are backed by a five-year unlimited kilometre warranty with 24/7 roadside assist. Service intervals for diesel models are 12 months or 15,000 kilometres, whichever comes first.
