We recently reported on the all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class (more here) and now the three-pointed star has revealed an AMG sports package for its latest-generation mid-size sedan.
Touted as providing a “more sporty appearance and greater emotional appeal”, the AMG package comprises a front apron with enlarged cooling air intakes, side skirts and a rear apron.
Other tweaks that come as part of the AMG package include bespoke tailpipes. Four-cylinder petrol models are adorned by twin-oval polished steel exhaust tips, while four-cylinder diesel models have a single oval tailpipe -- also made from polished stainless steel.
The V6 and V8 models go one better, scoring twin rectangular polished stainless steel tailpipes that are integrated into the AMG rear apron.
The AMG package also brings 18-inch light-alloy wheels, which are painted in sterling silver with a 'high-sheen' finish, and shod with 245/40R18 rubber at the front and 265/35R 18 gumballs at the rear.
Lurking behind the AMG rims are perforated brake discs and silver-painted calipers festooned with the Mercedes-Benz logo at the front, and the whole kit and caboodle rides on 'Direct Control' suspension lowered by 15mm.
Interior goodies that come as part of the AMG package include sports seats and a three-spoke sports steering wheel with 'Direct Select' shift paddles
The seats are fabricated from lightweight Dinamica microfibre and Artico man-made leather (whatever that is), while the floor mats are embossed with AMG lettering.
The sports pedal cluster in brushed stainless steel with rubber studs, a black roof lining and a shift/selector lever in nappa leather with chrome highlights.
Depending on the engine variant and the design and equipment line, the AMG sports package costs between 2915 and 4046 euros ($5765-8000) in Europe.
The AMG sports package is expected to be offered here from the outset when the all-new E-Class launches locally in mid-2009.
