The Finer Details

It’s nowhere near as potent as the hotter GT 55 and GT 63 it’s positioned below, but the new GT 53 will still offer decent power from its 400kW dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, however Mercedes only quotes a continuous power figure of 270kW.

It'll sprint to 100km/h from standstill in a claimed 3.5 seconds – when full power is deployed – before topping out at its electronically limited 230km/h top speed.

Buyers can opt to raise that figure to 250km/h by way of the optional AMG Driver's Package.

Running an 800V architecture, the GT 53’s 106kWh battery pack nabs directly cooled cylindrical cells enabling it to cover up to 800km (WLTP) on a single charge.

It also supports DC fast charging at up to 600kW on compatible chargers, with Mercedes claiming more than 500km of range can be added in just 10 minutes.

As for the driving experience, the GT 53 will come equipped with an AMGFORCE Sport+ mode, able to simulate gearshifts (via deliberate torque interruptions) and an artificial soundtrack inspired by the brand's turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six.

Selectable sound profiles and the ability for drivers to adjust throttle response is standard, while air suspension with adaptive dampers and AMG’s 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system are standard fare.

The quirky exterior – shared with its more ferocious siblings – is complete with an active rear spoiler (standard) and an optional active rear diffuser to reduce drag and improve efficiency at higher speeds.

Inside, there's a 14-inch central touchscreen, optional front passenger display, sports seats, wireless smartphone charging and an electrochromic panoramic roof with adjustable transparency as standard.

The Road Ahead

The 2026 Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe is due on sale in Germany from this month, however Australian timing and pricing have yet to be confirmed.
