Mercedes-AMG sets prices for GLC 43 and GLE 43

V6 twin-turbo SUVs available now, other than GLC 43 Coupe due to follow early next year

Mercedes-Benz Australia dealers are rolling out the new high-performance V6 AMG variants of the GLC and GLE SUVs.

Prices for the twin-turbo models kick off from $101,400 for the GLC 43, rising to $108,900 for the Coupe version, the only model of the four that won't reach local shores before early next year. The larger GLE 43 (the W166 M-Class renamed and powered by the new AMG drivetrain), is priced at $133,616 and the Coupe version of that vehicle is exactly $10,000 more, at $143,616.

“The latest Mercedes-AMG models continue our performance portfolio offensive, these models will attract a new breed of customer to the world of high performance from Mercedes-AMG”, said Horst von Sanden, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Cars Australia/Pacific.

“Without compromising on what the brand stands for, these attractive new models offer a true AMG driving experience, yet provide exceptional value for customers.”

Across the four SUV variants, the 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 is rated at 270kW and 520Nm, with the torque plateau between 2500 and 4500rpm. Benz claims the GLC models with this engine will accelerate to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds.

Drive from the engine is transmitted to the four wheels by the multi-mode 9G-Tronic (nine-speed) automatic and the torque split is rear-biased, with 69 per cent to the rear, 31 per cent to the front.

Air suspension is specified for the GLC models, complemented by three-mode adaptive dampers. Mercedes-AMG has fettled the suspension geometry and hardware for sportier dynamics.

Standard equipment for the GLC 43 models will include 21-inch AMG alloy wheels, a body kit, the Air Body Control suspension/adaptive damping, leather upholstery, Comand satellite navigation, head-up display and a Burmester surround-sound audio system.

Both the GLE 43 and GLE 43 Coupe come equipped with an AMG body kit, Dynamic Select driving modes, air suspension, Active Curve System, Adaptive Damping System Plus and a Harman Kardon Logic 7 surroud-sound audio system. In addition, the GLE 43 rides on 21-inch AMG alloy wheels, and the GLE 43 Coupe goes up one step – to 22-inch wheels.

Standard safety kit across both GLC and GLE variants comprises nine airbags, a 360-degree camera, LED lighting with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, Drier Assistance Package, Distronic Plus with Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Pre-Safe Plus and Pre-Safe Brake with pedestrian detection.
