Mercedes-Benz Australia has confirmed today that the V-Class people mover will go on sale here from July, priced from $85,500. To be available in just the one variant, the V 250 BlueTEC Avantgarde will be powered by Benz's 2.1-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder, rated at 140kW and 440Nm, although the manufacturer claims that an 'overtorque' function can boost power and torque by an additional 10kW and 40Nm, respectively. This translates to a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 9.1 seconds.
Complying with Euro 6 emissions legislation, the engine uses 6.3L/100km in combined-cycle testing and drives through the 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission, which is offered with shift paddles. Despite its commercial vehicle presentation, the V 250 slips through the air with a drag coefficient of 0.31Cd, which not only serves to reduce fuel consumption, but also contributes to lower levels of noise, vibration and harshness.
Mercedes-Benz has also specified the V 250 for Australia with the Agility Select drive configuration system. Additionally, the eight-seat people mover features Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive, which incorporates Crosswind Assist, Attention Assist, Active Parking Assist, Driver Assistance Package (with Distronic Plus, Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist, and Pre-Safe).
Standard comfort and convenience features for the V 250 include Lugano leather upholstery, ambient lighting, multi-function steering wheel, Comand system with touchpad, 16-speaker Burmester audio, a satnav-based intelligent climate control system, active seat ventilation and four-way lumbar adjustment. An unusual feature is the V 250's 'Easy-Pack' tailgate, with a separate opening rear window.
"With the new V-Class we are expanding the Mercedes-Benz premium passenger car range with a saloon for up to eight people", says Dr Dieter Zetsche, Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, as quoted in a press release.
"Functionality is a must for an MPV. Comfort and style are the icing on the cake. The new V-Class combines both in a way no other vehicle in this segment can offer."
