Mercedes-Benz has confirmed Australian pricing and specifications for the new GLE 450 e 4MATIC, the first plug-in hybrid version of its large SUV. Available in SUV and Coupe body styles, the newcomer combines a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine with a plug-in hybrid system producing 320kW and 680Nm, while offering up to 91km of claimed electric driving range under WLTP testing.

The GLE 450 e pairs a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol engine with a 135kW electric motor and a 25.7kWh battery pack. Drive is sent to all four wheels through Mercedes-Benz's 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system and nine-speed automatic transmission.
Mercedes-Benz claims a 0-100km/h time of 5.6 seconds for both body styles, while electric-only driving is possible at speeds of up to 140km/h.
The SUV has a claimed electric range of 87km, with the more aerodynamic Coupe extending that figure to 91km.

Standard equipment includes AMG Line exterior styling, the Night Package, heated front seats, a Burmester sound system, head-up display and Mercedes-Benz's latest MBUX Superscreen, which incorporates three 12.3-inch displays beneath a single glass panel.
Driver assistance features include lane change assist, steering assist and a 360-degree camera system.
The new variant slots between the diesel-powered GLE 350d, priced from $142,300, and the AMG GLE 53, priced from $187,900. The GLE 450 e Coupe is priced slightly below the existing GLE 450 Coupe, which lists at $160,400.
The GLE 450 e expands Mercedes-Benz's plug-in hybrid lineup in Australia and gives the GLE range a high-output electrified option without stepping up to a full AMG model. Customer deliveries begin through Mercedes-Benz dealerships from 15 October 2026.
