Mercedes-Benz reveals new S 63 AMG

Blink and you'll miss AMG's twin-turbo V8 sedan, revealed in this brief video

Mercedes-AMG has released a teaser video of the new (W222 generation) S 63 AMG.

The video is supported by new images and specifications announced by the prestige brand, including the information that the S 63 AMG will produce 430kW of power – not the 410kW rating originally surmised a month ago.

While the company will build the S 63 AMG in rear-wheel drive and 4Matic (all-wheel drive) models, we'll see just the former in Australia, as is the case for the E 63 AMG. Other specifications applying to the new S 63, which will be the flagship of the S-Class sedan range in Australia, include a peak torque figure of 900Nm from 2250 to 3750rpm.

Fuel consumption, according to the NEDC combined-cycle test (which is close to our own ADR-approved combined-cycle standard), is 10.L/100km for the rear-driven model. Acceleration to 100km/h takes 4.4 seconds and both fuel consumption and performance are enhanced by the new S 63's lower kerb weight – reduced by 100kg over its predecessor's mass, according to the company.

Mercedes-Benz Australia plans to launch the new S-Class range, with the S 63 AMG, from the last quarter of this year. Other models will follow in February of next year, but the AMG model will arrive here right from the start.
