Mercedes-Benz V-Class people-mover gets air suspension

Mercedes-Benz has announced it will soon offer its Airmatic air suspension as an option on its V-Class people-mover, pure-electric EQV, Vito Tourer, eVito Tourer and its flagship Marco Polo camper.

Set to be introduced later this year, the availability of air suspension is claimed by the car-maker to introduce unprecedented levels of ride comfort to the 'van with windows' segment.

As well as a comfier ride, the German brand says Mercedes-Benz V-Class variants equipped with Airmatic are quieter and use less fuel.

On rough roads, meanwhile, the air springs can raise the body away from harm, providing extra ground clearance.

Improved stability and reduced roll are yet more benefits of the new suspension.

Mirroring cars fitted with Airmatic, drivers have the choice of differing driving modes.

In Comfort mode, the V-Class runs at its standard ride height at speeds of up to 110km/h. Above that, the suspension automatically lowers by 10mm.

In the Sport setting, the Benz people-mover rides 10mm at all speeds, while its active dampers are more reactive.

Finally, in the Lift mode, the air suspension jacks the rider up by as much as 35mm but only at speeds of up to 30km/h.
