Mercedes CLA teases its gesture interior lighting

Mercedes-Benz has continued to tease the second-generation Mercedes CLA ahead of its launch at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in a matter of days.

This time the short vid posted on the car-maker's Facebook page focuses on the 2019 Mercedes CLA's advanced gesture-based ambient interior lighting.

The teaser showcases what appears to be a cabin lighting system that can track a driver's hand to provide added illumination when searching for something within the interior of the next-gen Mercedes CLA.

According to Benz, the clever lighting will be part of the sedan-coupe's new Interior Assistant package.

Mercedes-Benz is expected to reveal more of the advanced ambient lighting at CES, but it's thought the new tech works with the CLA's MBUX infotainment system that operates using natural speak.

As well as showing the same virtual cockpit digital display as the A-Class, the 2019 CLA tease also reveals Mercedes will produce an 'Edition 1' trim to help launch the CLA globally - no huge surprise.

The CLA will share its platform, engines and transmissions with the recently-launched A-Class, including a sporty 2.0-litre four-cylinder that powers the 225kW A 35 4MATIC and the more powerful 310kW A 45.

Offered alongside a traditional A-Class sedan - created to major in space, rather than style - the sportier CLA is set to go on sale in the second quarter of 2019 in Europe. Just six months later, Mercedes will launch a replacement for the current CLA Shooting Brake.

Both are expected to arrive Down Under late in 2019.

We expect another tease of the new CLA before its January 8 debut in Las Vegas at CES.
