MG4 XPOWER electric performance hatch arriving early in Australia

Showroom arrival now just days away for MG’s all-new 300kW-plus EV hyper hatch, from $59,990

MG Australia has accelerated the rollout of the 2023 MG4 XPOWER in the wake of “unprecedented demand” for the high-performance battery-electric hatch, with the first demonstrator and pre-order cars now set to arrive by the end of October.

The fast-tracked timeline means eager consumers and dealers alike can get their hands on the only sub-$60,000, 300kW-plus new vehicle on the Australian market almost a month earlier than anticipated, as the wider MG4 portfolio continues to ride a wave of popularity as one of Australia’s most affordable EVs.

The MG4 XPOWER is priced from $59,990 plus on-road costs and will dispatch 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.8 seconds courtesy of a 320kW/600Nm dual e-motor drivetrain.

That hands the XPOWER bragging rights as the most powerful and fastest MG model to date, with buyers having to spend an extra $10,000-$15,000 if they want similar outputs from an EV – see the incoming Volvo EX30 Twin Motor Performance Ultra (from $69,990) and Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD (from $71,990).

The dual motors draw current from a 64kWh battery pack and will cover up to 385km on a single charge, with the formidable powertrain backed by a more aggressive chassis tune said to be around 25 per cent stiffer thanks to new springs, dampers and anti-roll bars.

Stopping power has been enhanced too, courtesy of beefier brake callipers and bigger discs.

Other standard equipment highlights include launch control, new 18-inch alloy wheels with 235/45 tyres, a 10.25-inch infotainment system with exclusive performance displays and functions, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, Alcantara upholstery, heated seats/steering wheel, sat-nav and a 360-degree camera.
