A special limited-run MINI Cooper Countryman Boardwalk Edition has arrived in “celebration of coastal love”, bringing a host of extra equipment including a new picnic bench set-up.
The new Boardwalk Edition takes styling cues off the recent MINI Cooper S Convertible Sidewalk Edition and is offered in two grade specifications: Cooper and Cooper S.
Pricing starts from $52,000 plus on-road costs for the MINI Cooper Countryman Boardwalk Edition, while the sportier Cooper S Countryman Boardwalk costs $58,500 plus ORCs.
Every Boardwalk comes with Deep Laguna metallic paint, LEDs for the headlights, fog lights and tail-lights, plus ‘Boardwalk Edition’ side scuttles, roof decal and door sills.
Black 18-inch ‘Pin-spoke’ alloy wheels (wrapped in run-flat tyres) are also included, along with black roof rails and piano-black trim on the roof, mirror caps and grille surround.
Inside, MINI Boardwalk Edition models feature a special fascia insert, carbon black leatherette upholstery, 5.0-inch digital instrument cluster, Anthracite headliner and a large panoramic sunroof.
There’s also a picnic bench that folds out from the boot and allows occupants to “sit and take in beachside views from the promenade”, MINI says.
Other standard features include an 8.8-inch touch-screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and Parking Assistant, Driving Assistant and Comfort Access systems.
Reserved specially for the top-spec Cooper S Countryman is a JCW Sport steering wheel, leather Cross Punch seats in Carbon Black with electric seat adjustment (and position memory), adaptive cruise control and a black honeycomb insert for the grille.
Standard safety gear fitted to every Countryman includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera and forward collision warning.
Less than 60 special-edition Boardwalk models will be offered Down Under, including 29 units based on the 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol (100kW/220Nm) Cooper Countryman and 30 based on the Cooper S Countryman, which uses a more powerful 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo (141kW/280Nm).
Both are mated to a seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch automatic transmission.
