Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer SUV concept previewed

Bizarrely named Mitsubishi Engelberg takes name from ski resort, shows off car-maker's next-gen technology

Mitsubishi has teased a darkened image of the Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer SUV it will reveal this March at the 2019 Geneva motor show.

Releasing a single silhouette image of what looks like a medium-size SUV, the concept previews the car-maker's latest 'Dynamic Shield' grille and thin blue LED headlamps and roof-mounted lights that could reappear on a production version of the Mitsubishi Engelberg.

Created to showcase Mitsubishi's new technology, the Engelberg Tourer concept borrows its name from a Swiss ski resort.

Claimed to offer "enhanced EV performance", it's not yet known if the concept will come with a full pure-electric powertrain or new plug-in hybrid tech.

If it's the latter, the new powertrain could reappear under the bonnet of the next-generation Outlander PHEV.

It's thought some of the Engelberg's design might also influence the all-new fourth-generation Outlander that's due some time in 2020.
