Mitsubishi recalls Outlander for scuttle design

Penetrating water could accumulate around the wiper motor, causing corrosion and seizure

Mitsubishi is contacting owners of about 46,000 examples of the ZG and ZH series Outlander built and sold between model years 2007 and 2012 for a problem that could affect windscreen wiper operation.

Rainwater can seep into the space occupied by the windscreen wiper motor and settle there, around the motor. According to Mitsubishi, the water is drawn in through a breather hole in the front scuttle once the windscreen wiper motor cools down from use.

Water pooling around the motor over a prolonged period can lead to rust and the motor may seize in due course. Should this happen during a rain storm the driver and other occupants of the vehicle could be placed at risk of a crash.

The importer says it will mail owners with further information as parts become available to repair each vehicle.
