Mitsubishi has announced a new model year upgrade for the Outlander SUV. The big news is that all variants in the range now come equipped with standard stability and traction control systems.
All Outlander models for 2008 are available with a third row seat to upgrade seating capacity to seven. In the case of the newly introduced XLS Luxury and VRX Luxury versions, the third row seat is standard, but optional for all other variants at a cost of $1200 above the five-seat pricing.
The base model 2.4-litre LS with CVT is joined by a five-speed manual transmission variant for a $1200 saving. LS Outlander variants are also fitted with a new design of alloy wheels, measuring 16-inch diameter.
The 'Luxury' versions of the XLS and VRX models can be distinguished from the standard models by an exclusive 18-inch wheel design and chrome finish for the grille surround, side sills and door handles.
All Outlander variants feature a re-styled interior for 2008, comprising new materials, improved specification and enhanced instrumentation.
For the LS models, climate control is added to the standard specification and the interior has been revised with the introduction of silver detail for the instrument panel and new door panels with cloth inserts.
A side-impact and curtain airbag option priced at $850 is offered on LS models with five-seat configuration.
XLS models build on the new LS specification with the side and curtain airbag option of the LS fitted as standard. Hands-free Bluetooth connectivity is also fitted as standard on 2008 XLS models. A new leather pack option priced at $1500 comprises leather seat trim, electric seat adjustment and heating with a map pocket behind.
XLS Luxury models introduce HID headlights with auto beam levelling and headlight washers. The headlights also feature an auto on/off facility. Other features include a Rockford Fosgate audio system and rain-sensing wipers.
A new design of 16-inch alloy wheel has been specified for the Outlander VR and the upmarket VRX model gains hands-free Bluetooth and a revised mesh pattern seat trim. At the top of the tree, the Outlander VRX Luxury is fitted with a rear-seat entertainment system, leather seat trim and a sunroof.
New colours for 2008 include Mystic Blue, Champagne, Red Metallic, Cool Silver, Black Mica, Manitoba Grey, Deep Blue Metallic (all metallic paints) and White. The metallic colour options add $350 to the purchase price of the vehicle.
