Showing off a mature new look and several minor interior tweaks, the 2017 Mitsubishi ASX small SUV is now available in Australia.
Priced from $25,000 (plus on-road costs) for the manual LS model and topping out at $37,000 (plus on-road costs) for the XLS AWD diesel, Mitsubishi says its popular SUV now has a strong familial connection to the Outlander and Pajero Sport, adopting the Japanese brand's 'Dynamic Shield' design ethos.
Unchanged underneath, the ASX’s contemporary frontal design is the biggest visual change for the new model, with the sides and rear unmolested.
Mitsubishi says minor changes to entry-level LS grade vehicles bring about improved seat fabric with red stitching as well as tweaks to the audio menu, with improved graphics and structure that "make it quicker and easier to locate the system’s features and pair a mobile phone".
However, unlike some SUVs in the Mitsubishi range, the ASX misses out on Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality.
The ASX is an ancient vehicle by modern car standards. At seven year's old, yet the Mitsubishi ASX was the top-selling small SUV in October 2016. Thus far in 2016 it is the second-best-selling vehicle in class with 15,112 sales, just behind the Mazda CX-3's 15,493.
One of the reasons for the cars popularity – it's also the importer's best-seller – is a strong five-year warranty and affordable pricing.
"ASX is our number one-selling SUV, and for good reason – it hits all the right markers for small SUV buyers with an abundance of style, features and great packaging," said Mitsubishi Motors Australia executive director of marketing, Tony Principe.
He added that the new ASX "will make a bold statement with plenty of youthful appeal and new features to help it remain one of Australia's most popular small SUVs."
All models come with seven airbags, a reversing camera and rear parking sensors.
