Mitsubishi Motors Australia Ltd (MMAL) issued a statement last week, revealing that the company's Lancer, built between 2003 and 2008, will be recalled for its Takata-supplied airbags to be replaced.
The statement was issued the same day Mitsubishi's American arm lifted the sheets from its facelifted CJ Lancer (unaffected by this recall campaign), due here sometime next year.
According to the company, 59,522 Lancers (CH models of sedan and wagon, plus CY and CZ Evo sedans) are to be recalled. The build dates for the vehicles affected range from June 11, 2003 to December 30, 2008.
Defective airbags supplied by Takata to most Japanese manufacturers – and numerous American and European brands as well – have been the subject of a worldwide campaign that may now include as many as a million or more vehicles sold in Australia, following this latest news from Mitsubishi. MMAL is getting in touch with owners from today, October 5.
