Mitsubishi is recalling nearly 75,000 SUVs to fix the end caps of the gas struts that support the tailgate in the raised position.
During the production process for the affected vehicles, the anti-corrosion coating for the end caps of the struts applied was inadequate and Mitsubishi advises that premature corrosion could result in the strut coming adrift and the tailgate collapsing.
Vehicles subject to the recall notice are the XA and XB model ASX built between model years 2011 to 2015, the Pajero Sport for the 2016 model year and the PB and PC Challenger for model years 2012 to 2014.
Of the 74,935 vehicles affected, 55,079 are the ASX, 5924 are the Pajero Sport and 13,932 are the Challenger. Mitsubishi is contacting owners by mail to arrange for the vehicles to have the end caps replaced. Owners wanting to know more can contact authorised Mitsubishi dealers or phone Mitsubishi on 1300 1312 11.
