Mitsubishi Triton prices up across range

Price rises have been ushered in across the Mitsubishi Triton range for the second time in only three months.

The Japanese brand’s all-important ute – spanning a comprehensive 22 variants – has risen $500 across the bulk of the range, now starting at $23,490 plus on-road costs for the Mitsubishi Triton GLX Single Cab Chassis with petrol engine, manual gearbox and 4x2 driveline.

At the top end, the auto-only 4x4 diesel-powered Triton GLS Double Cab Pick-Up has climbed $750 in both manual and automatic transmission guise – now starting from $46,990 and $49,240 plus ORCs respectively – while the flagship GSR Double Cab Pick-Up increases by the same amount to now open at $53,490 plus ORCs.

The latest pricing marks a slow, but steady, movement northward for the Mitsubishi Triton.

Increases of a similar amount were tabled in October last year as the Mitsubishi Triton entered the MY21 model year, but with no significant changes to equipment levels, while the MY20 range introduced in February 2020 – which brought new GLX-R and GSR variants into the fold – also received a minor price increase.

Mitsubishi is still to confirm the reasons behind the latest move, but currency pressures are frequently cited across the industry.

Under intense competition from new model releases from rival brands, including upgrades to the top-selling Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger, and new-generation versions of the Isuzu D-MAX and Mazda BT-50, the Mitsubishi Triton is soldiering on with an industry-leading 10-year warranty as a major drawcard.

The Triton has a couple of years left to run before it enters a new generation, bringing it fully up to date with its major rivals – and possibly moving into unchartered territory, with a plug-in hybrid powertrain in development.
