Mitsubishi Triton Sport Edition released

New special-edition dual-cab headlines updated 23MY ute range with dark decals and other cosmetic tweaks

Mitsubishi Australia has announced first details of its updated 2023 Mitsubishi Triton ute line-up, including a new limited-run Sport Edition dual-cab variant that slots into the range just beneath the flagship GSR.

Limited to just 400 units nationally and priced from $56,440 plus on-road costs, the Sport Edition is essentially a more macho version of the penultimate GLS Deluxe grade and the extra visual impact comes courtesy of some unique decals, black exterior bits and red accents.

The cosmetic additions come in conjunction with black, white or orange exterior paint colours and are complemented within the interior by a contrasting black and red colour scheme.

Equipment highlights for the Sport Edition include the aforementioned aesthetic upgrades, plus 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery and trim inserts, heated front seats with power adjustment for the driver, 7.0-inch infotainment interface, SuperSelect II four-wheel drive system and a 360-degree camera – all as per the GLS Deluxe.

No changes have been made to the Triton’s familiar 2.4-litre turbo-diesel powertrain, chassis or rolling stock beyond the black wheels, and the only transmission choice is the six-speed torque converter automatic.

“As part of continually evolving our product offer, we now welcome the new, limited-production Triton Sport Edition to Australia,” said Mitsubishi Motors Australia CEO Shaun Westcott.

“This vehicle is perfectly placed to appeal to those who value a uniquely sporting style, combined with the capability, functionality and practicality that Triton is renowned for.”

There are a few other standard equipment tweaks for the ‘23MY’ Triton line-up, which is likely to be the final model update for the seven-year-old ute before it’s replaced by an all-new model in late 2023.

The main ones are the addition of side steps to all GLX variants and the return of a factory head unit for GLX-R and GLS grades.

Although the updates are few, increased production and shipping costs have driven asking prices up by between $750 and $1500 depending on the variant – save for the petrol GLX Single Cab Chassis 4x2, which has been dropped.

The increases mean the Triton range now opens from $30,740 plus on-roads for the entry-level GLX Single Cab Chassis 4x2 and tops out at $63,640 for the flagship GSR Tan Orange Interior (TOI) and Roller Cover Pack (RCP).

Production of the MY23 range started last month and first examples are due in local showrooms from December.
