Mitsubishi Triton Toby Price Edition revealed

Dakar winner and off-road legend Toby Price gets a ute named in his honour

Defending Dakar motorcycle champion and popular off-road rider/driver Toby Price has teamed with Mitsubishi to create his own ute: the Mitsubishi Triton Toby Price Edition.

Based on the GLS 4x4 Dual Cab version of the updated 2020 Mitsubishi Triton, the Toby Price Edition goes on sale October 1 limited to 500 examples nationally.

Each is priced from $48,140 (plus on-road costs), a $3650 premium over the regular GLS. For that, the Toby Price Edition adds a Black Sports Bar, window weather shields, tinted bonnet protector, black nudge bar, LED light bar, Triton door decals, a soft tonneau cover and Toby Price decals on either rear flank.

Being based on the GLS variant means those features come over and above a premium fabric seat trim, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, 7.0-inch touch-screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital radio, four USB ports (two front and two rear), front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

Safety is well sorted in the new model, with autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane change assist, lane departure warning and the full gamut of driver assist functions save for adaptive cruise control. There are two ISOFIX child seat anchorages in the rear seat, along with front and rear airbag coverage.

The Toby Price Edition Triton employs the same 2.4-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder good for 133kW and 430Nm, tied to a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

Six-tie down points, a 3.1-tonne braked towing capacity and 850kg payload capacity means the Toby Price Edition is well versed in hauling motorcycles, too.

Naturally, the newcomer boasts a healthy off-road bent with features including Mitsubishi’s Super Select II four-wheel drive system with selectable off-road modes, rear differential lock and hill descent control.

“Toby Price has been with Mitsubishi Motors Australia for a number of years now,” said Mitsubishi Australia senior product strategy manage Owen Thomson.

“He’s a two-time Dakar bike champion, a six-time Finke winner, a multiple Australian off-road motorcycle champion and a bloody good bloke.

“In celebration of Toby, we’ve decided to release a Toby Price Edition Triton.”

The Triton range is backed by a seven-year, 150,000km factory warranty until December 31, and is offered with a three-year, 45,000km capped-price servicing program which amounts to $897 (or $299 per 12-month/15,000km service).

How much does the 2020 Mitsubishi Triton Toby Price Edition cost?
2.4-litre turbo-diesel -- $50,640 (plus on-road costs)
