Aussies can start to get excited about both ends of the full-size pick-up spectrum.
Speaking exclusively to carsales as part of an announcement around increased local ‘remanufacturing’ of RAM Trucks Australia models, RAM Trucks International chief Bob Graczyk hinted that battery-electric RAM pick-ups are heading to Australia and confirmed a new allocation of the outrageous 523kW RAM 1500 TRX is on its way in 2023.
Graczyk was guarded on the subject of the electric RAMs for Australia but confirmed the US truck brand would make announcements about battery-powered models at next month’s Los Angeles motor show – with follow ups at January’s Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
“The whole movement towards electrification is really picking up some speed. Of course, RAM is looking into that and what our future’s going to be because electrification is coming... And it’s going to be here [Australia] and we’re going to have some answers for the consumer in the future too,” Graczyk told carsales.
“We’ve got some exciting announcements that are going to be coming up at the LA Auto Show. We’ll be making some announcements with regards to what we call our RAM Revolution. And then, at the Consumer Electronics Show... we’ve got some other exciting news to come,” he stated.
“I can’t share anything with you at the moment but in a couple of months there’s going to be some really exciting things that we’re going to announce from RAM,” Graczyk explained.
The timeline is a little more certain for buyers who missed out on the first allocation of right-hand drive TRXs, which quickly sold out in 2021.
“I mean, this is such an important market for us… and by the way, the total [global] production of TRX is pretty limited. We’re basically sold out on that, so we’re trying to do our best at distributing them around the world as fairly and equitable as possible.
“But I think that you’re going to see an increase in TRX production here that will be destined for Australia in 2023,” Graczyk promised.
The initial Australian allocation of RAM 1500 TRX was quickly snapped up and deliveries are well advanced.
RAM Trucks Australia is targeting close to 8000 total RAM deliveries in 2022, with around 90 per cent of those being 1500s across both the DS and newer DT generations.
