Most in-demand classic cars globally revealed

If you’re a keen investor or simply want to be the envy of all your mates, you should buy one of these classics

Researchers have sifted through more than 200 classic car models, now revealing which are the hottest on the market.

They have and always will be highly sought-after with motoring enthusiasts around the world, with classic cars loved for their character, scarcity and quite often, raw power… the latter of which is increasingly hard to come by in newer vehicles, as global emissions regulations continue to tighten.

But, it’s for those very reasons that they don’t come cheap, and now, a new report from Confused.com has revealed where your dollars are best spent. Well, as long as your dollars are unlimited.

Comparing hundreds of classic cars on factors including rarity and estimated value, the research company ranked the Lamborghini Miura as the “greatest classic car”.

Born in the mid-60s and considered by many to be the world’s first supercar, the V12-powered Italian sports coupe is said to have doubled in value over the last three years, and by over 1500 per cent since it launched.

Unsurprisingly, quite a few Ferrari models were high on the list too, with the iconic F40 in second spot, followed by the Ferrari 250 GTO.

Also said to have gone up in value by 100 per cent over the last three years, the twin-turbo V8-powered F40 is also among the most searched classic cars, with over 4 million Google searches every year.

Close behind, the ultra-rare Ferrari 250 GTO would have to be one of the more difficult (and expensive) classics to come across, with just 36 units built in the 1960s and an estimated value today of an unbelievable $70 million.

A special mention goes to fourth place, the AC Cobra, which gathers close to 5 million Google searches each year. There’s also one listed for sale on our site, with a cool asking price of $2.2 million.

Rounding out the top 10 “best classic cars” was the Lamborghini Countach, Datsun 240Z, Bugatti EB 110, Lancia Stratos, Plymouth Superbird and, by far the most popular on Google, the Jaguar E-Type.

As for return on investment, some of the best choices are tipped to be the Ferrari F355, Ferrari Testarossa, Lamborghini Miura and Ferrari F40.

The Alfa Romeo GTV 6, Honda Prelude and Ford Cortina are also up there as worthy investments, according to the research.
