The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker EV has been teased ahead of its unveiling at the New York motor show on April 16.
With Subaru releasing a single image of its rear tailgate’s badging, the Trailseeker EV is set to share the stage with the next-generation Outback. Otherwise, little is known about the battery-powered SUV, other than it’s hotly tipped to share a platform with a Toyota SUV.
“Get ready to meet your newest adventure-ready sidekick from Subaru: the all-new 2026 Subaru Trailseeker EV SUV,” a Subaru press release states.
“See it in person at the 2025 New York International Auto Show, coming soon.”
Rumours suggest the all-new Subaru EV will go on sale in January 2026 and be built by Subaru, alongside the Toyota, at its Yajima plant in Japan.
Keeping costs down, the new Subaru will share components and tech from the Toyota bZ4X/Subaru Solterra that could translate to an attractive price if it reaches Australia.
Set to share the firm’s new boxy design language with the inbound 2026 Outback, the Trailseeker should sport plenty of black plastic protective cladding, come with a front and rear bashplate and feature heavy-duty roof rails.
Beneath the skin it will ride on the same e-SGP (Subaru Global Platform) as the Solterra, which is a development of the Toyota e-TNGA platform.
Expected to be only offered with dual motors and all-wheel drive, some reports suggest the new EV has been built to offer plenty of space. The model’s dimensions could see it sit above the Solterra, helping the car-maker beat the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and the dominant Tesla Model Y for cabin space.
The Trailseeker is just one of eight EVs Subaru has declared will be on sale by 2028.
