Subaru Trailseeker EV revealed
The wraps have come off Subaru’s second EV, which blends Outback-inspired looks with a potent dual-motor electric drivelineThe Subaru Trailseeker has been unveiled at the 2025 New York International Auto Show.
Positioned as a more rugged and practical sibling to the existing Solterra, the Trailseeker blends Subaru’s hallmark all-wheel-drive capability with a new, adventure-ready electric platform.
Set to arrive in showrooms in 2026, the Trailseeker features Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, dual electric motors, and up to 275kW of power.
Power comes from a 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which is said to offer around 418km of range from a single charge.
While based on similar underpinnings to the Solterra, the Trailseeker is around 152mm longer and 25mm taller. It also said to have a 1500kg towing capacity, 210mm of ground clearance, and a larger cargo area than the Solterra.
The Subaru Trailseeker also brings with it an adventure focus, the vehicle sporting raised roof rails and a newly developed X-MODE drive system with settings for Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud.
Subaru says the new EV is designed to deliver both on- and off-road performance, with smart adaptive suspension and traction management systems that respond dynamically to changing loads and terrain.
Inside, the Subaru Trailseeker features a 14-inch touch-screen – the largest ever to feature in a Subaru. Featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the car also has dual 15W wireless chargers and two USB-C ports for rear passengers.
The rest of the interior represents an evolution of the current Solterra design, which was inherited from its Toyota bZ4X twin.
The Subaru Trailseeker comes with the full suite of Subaru EyeSight driver-assistance systems, including pre-collision braking, front cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and traffic jam assist, among others.
Externally, the Trailseeker debuts Subaru’s new EV design language. This includes a six-star illuminated badge, redesigned LED lighting, and a fresh rear-end treatment with three-dimensional badging and a light signature that sets it apart from its stablemates.
While the Trailseeker has been unveiled as a global model, Australian availability is yet to be confirmed. A Subaru Australia spokesperson told carsales: “Subaru’s global unveilings at the New York International Auto Show provide an exciting glimpse into the brand’s future. We look forward to sharing what these global debuts mean for the Australian market in due course.”
Pricing and specifications will be announced closer to the Trailseeker’s overseas launch in early 2026.
