MY22 Skoda Kamiq gets power boost

Higher starting prices for Czech brand’s smallest SUV as new entry variant brings more power

An upgraded MY22 Skoda Kamiq range will bring a more powerful entry-level variant, a new top-spec Signature flagship and higher prices across the Czech brand’s compact SUV line-up.

Following the sell-out success of the base Kamiq 85TSI, which has anchored the Kamiq range since it arrived in Australia in 2020, entry to the line-up will cost $6000 more than before thanks to a bigger engine for the cheapest variant.

The new Ambition 110TSI now opens the Kamiq range at $32,390 plus on-road costs (or $32,990 drive-away) as a manual or $33,390 plus ORCs ($34,990 drive-away) with a DSG auto.

For MY22, which is available to order now ahead of first deliveries in coming weeks, the 85kW/200Nm 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that previously powered the entry-level Kamiq 85TSI will be replaced with the more powerful 110kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol already seen in higher-spec Kamiq grades.

That means every Kamiq will now be powered by the same 1.5-litre turbo donk, including the mid-spec Monte Carlo that continues on and a new Signature grade that tops the revised MY22 range at $35,890 plus on-roads or $38,990 drive-away.

The entry-level Ambition is available with six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG automatic transmissions, while Monte Carlo and Signature grades are DSG-only.

Standard equipment for Ambition variants includes 18-inch alloy wheels, Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster, an 8.0-inch infotainment unit, dual-zone climate control, LED headlights and tail-lights with ‘swiping’ turn signals, a sports flat-bottom steering wheel and an electric tailgate.

Safety gear includes autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, reversing camera and rear parking sensors.

Sportier Kamiq Monte Carlo variants – priced from $35,290 (plus ORCs) or $37,990 drive-away – add sports seats, unique 18-inch alloys, a panoramic glass sunroof, sports pedals, black roof lining, 15mm-lower sports suspension and an exterior black-out package.

The new Signature flagship adds equipment previously reserved for the Kamiq Limited Edition it replaces, including the same gear as the Monte Carlo (except the alloys and black pack), as well as leather/suede seat trim, electric driver’s seat adjustment, heated front and rear seats, park assist, front parking sensors and a larger 9.2-inch touch-screen with wireless Apple CarPlay.

All Skoda Australia models are covered by a five-year/unlimited-km warranty and the option of three-year or five-year service packages priced at $800 and $1400 respectively.

Optional extras include a panoramic sunroof ($1300), tow bar ($2000) and, for the Monte Carlo, a Travel Pack ($4300) that adds blind spot monitoring, park assist, the larger 9.2-inch touch-screen, steering wheel mounted shift paddles and heated front and rear seats.
