N-TREK added to Nissan Pathfinder line-up

The family-friendly Pathfinder range has a new addition – the Nissan Pathfinder N-TREK Special Edition

Nissan has added a new model grade to its seven-seat, family-friendly Pathfinder line-up. The new 2020 Nissan Pathfinder N-TREK Special Edition arrives Down Under this month priced from $46,840. It is available in two equipment levels and both front and all-wheel drive variants.

The Nissan Pathfinder N-TREK Special Edition takes the Nissan N-TREK family to three, with both X-TRAIL N-TREK and Navara N-TREK models already in showrooms. In the case of the latter, there's also a locally developed and engineered Navara N-TREK Warrior which takes the off-road offering up another notch.

While the update gives the Pathfinder a more rugged look, for the time being, the Nissan Pathfinder N-TREK Special Edition is almost mechanically identical to its non-N-TREK counterparts. The only appreciable change is a (slightly) larger wheel and tyre package (see below).

The Pathfinder N-TREK Special Edition does however benefit from the Pathie range update from April 2019 which saw the addition of active safety features including autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and adaptive cruise control.

Although Nissan still offers a petrol-hybrid powertrain in Pathfinder, the seven-seat Pathfinder N-TREK Special Edition is powered exclusively by the company's long-standing 202kW/340Nm 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine.

Offered in both ST+ and ST-L model grades, the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder N-TREK Special Edition is differentiated from standard Pathies via the addition of black grille, wheel arch extensions and other styling tweaks. The vehicles also features a unique 18-inch alloy wheel design with larger 255 section rubber (standard is 235).

The interior is essentially unchanged. Unlike other Nissan models including the N-TREK Navara, the Pathfinder is yet to offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Four exterior paint colours are offered: Ivory Pearl, Diamond Black, Gun Metallic and Caspian Blue.

Although labelled as a 'Special Edition', Nissan Australia says the Nissan Pathfinder N-TREK will be an ongoing model. Its styling and execution is closely matched to the US-market Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition.

Nissan is expected to replace the long-running Pathfinder with an all-new model in 2021.

How much is the 2020 Pathfinder N-TREK Special Edition?
Nissan Pathfinder ST+ N-TREK 2WD $46,840 (front-wheel drive)
Nissan Pathfinder ST+ N-TREK AWD $50,340
Nissan Pathfinder ST-L N-TREK 2WD $57,140 (front-wheel drive)
Nissan Pathfinder ST-L N-TREK AWD $60,640
