The new-generation 2024 Audi Q6 e-tron has finally made its global debut, and although an Australian launch for the battery-electric mid-size luxury SUV has been confirmed, local timing is yet to be announced.
Sharing the same PPE architecture as the incoming second-generation Porsche Macan EV, the new five-seater Q6 e-tron is the first Audi vehicle to ride on the co-developed platform and will cover up to 625km on a single charge of its 100kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
The battery can be charged at up to 270kW when using DC power, thanks to an 800V architecture that will see the charge level go from 10-80 per cent in a claimed 21 minutes – or add up to 255km in 10 minutes.
AC charging, meantime, can be done at up to 11kW.
Two dual-motor powertrain options will be available at launch, with the standard Q6 e-tron delivering a combined 285kW for a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.9sec. Top speed is rated at 210km/h.
The Audi SQ 6 e-tron ups the ante with 380kW (in boost mode) and trims the sprint time down to 4.3sec. Top speed increases to 230km/h.
That compares to 285kW/650Nm for the Porsche Macan 4 EV (300kW in overboost launch control mode), and 430kW/1130Nm (470kW in overboost) for the battery-electric Macan Turbo, which can reach 100km/h in 3.3sec.
Audi has also confirmed that single-motor variants of the new Q6 e-tron are in the works, offering less power and higher affordability and efficiency – including a model that the company says will set a driving range benchmark.
The new Q6 e-tron measures 4771mm long, 1993mm wide, 1648mm tall and rides on a 2899mm wheelbase, which makes it bigger in every respect than the current combustion-engined Audi Q5.
Boot space is rated at 526 litres, expanding to 1529L when the 40/20/40-split folding rear bench is stowed. An extra 64 litres of storage is available in the frunk.
The exterior design borrows cues from the larger Q8 e-tron, while headline cabin appointments include a free-standing panoramic display comprising an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit and 14.5-inch infotainment interface.
There’s also a 10.9-inch MMI front passenger display with privacy mode, self-learning voice assist, 20-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system and recycled materials used throughout the build.
“Built on the new PPE platform, the Audi Q6 e-tron is the next technological leap in premium electric mobility for our customers,” said Audi CEO Gernot Döllner.
“Thanks to the PPE, we are able to launch high-volume models with high technical standards in different segments and thus further electrify our portfolio.”
European order books for the Q6 e-tron are now open ahead of first deliveries in the third quarter, suggesting Australian customers may have to wait until the first half of next year.
Pricing starts from €74,700 ($A124,000) for the standard version and €93,800 ($A156,000) for the SQ 6 e-tron.
