New 2024 Skoda Kodiaq and Superb previewed

Skoda’s next-gen large SUV, sedan and wagon set to remain on current platform but offer electrified engines

The new-generation 2024 Skoda Superb large car and Skoda Kodiaq SUV have been previewed ahead of their European launch late this year.

Following hot on the heels of its announcement that six new Skoda electric cars will be offered by 2026, and that a redesigned Superb and Kodiaq will emerge in the second half of 2023, the Volkswagen-owned Czech brand has confirmed the large liftback sedan, wagon and SUV will all be offered with conventional petrol and diesel engines as well as plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and mild-hybrid powertrains.

The PHEV should offer around 180kW and 400Nm of torque, plus a pure-electric range of more than 60km.

The first official silhouette images of the new Superb and Kodiaq have also been released, showing evolutionary styling rather than anything too radical.

No further details were released on how the car-maker will overhaul its next-generation family cars, however we already know that the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq will be considerably bigger than the current model, despite riding on the same Volkswagen Group MQB architecture.

The three-row SUV will feature a longer wheelbase and extra length behind the rear axle to provide everyone on board with more generous legroom.

Tipped to borrow styling cues from the battery-electric Skoda Enyaq, the new Kodiaq will have a squarer face and high bonnet line to give it a more imposing look.

At the rear, the tail-lights will mimic the current Skoda Octavia’s and be mounted higher up the tailgate then before.

We also spotted the 2024 Skoda Superb testing last year that confirmed it would be bigger than the outgoing model too, with a taller SUV-like body.

Featuring slightly more rakish rear styling for both the sedan and wagon, we expect both Superb body styles to offer acres of occupant space, coupled with a huge amount of luggage room.

An Australian launch for both the Superb and Kodiaq is anticipated in the first half of 2024.

Skoda will also refresh both the Scala and Kamiq this year, before updating the Octavia range in 2024 and rolling out the all-electric Karoq-replacing Elroq SUV.

In 2025, the brand will unveil an all-new replacement for the Enyaq, plus an entry-level EV that’s expected to start from around €25,000 ($A40,000)

In 2026, an all-electric Octavia-sized wagon will be introduced, along with a battery-powered flagship three-row SUV.
