New 2025 Volkswagen T7 Transporter teased again

VW’s Ford Transit Custom twin to deliver diesel, plug-in hybrid and advanced EV powertrain

VW has released a shadowy teaser of its new-generation 2025 Volkswagen T7 Transporter ahead of the medium-size van’s public debut at the IAA Transportation show in Hanover, Germany, in September.

Due to launch in Australia during the first quarter of 2025, VW’s T7 Transporter is already available for pre-order in Germany, priced from €36,780 ($A60,000).

Developed alongside the second-generation Ford Transit Custom launched last year, VW’s version mirrors the design of the battery-powered Volkswagen ID. Buzz and T7 Multivan, sporting a short, stubby nose and steeply raked windscreen.

It also adopts a pair of similar slim headlights with C-shaped LED daytime running lamps incorporated within the cluster.

Although not pictured, the rear-end will feature LED tail-lights with C-shaped graphics, while wheel options will extend to 19-inch rims – the largest ever offered on Transporter.

The new Transporter measures up between 5050mm and 5450mm in length, dwarfing both the ID. Buzz (4712mm) and the Multivan (4973-5173mm).

Thanks to its Ford architecture, VW’s new one-tonne delivery van will be available with all-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains for the first time.

All powertrains are expected to be sourced from Ford, including a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel and a larger 2.5-litre petrol-electric plug-in hybrid.

Both combine with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while all-wheel drive will be an option.

When it comes to EV power, expect the VW van to offer a range of more than 400km and come equipped with a 74kWh battery and the choice of either 100kW or 160kW e-motors.

Inside, the mid-wheelbase Transporter should have a 3m-long load bay and a payload of up to 1360kg. That figure will fall for the EV version, although the zero-emissions van can still haul up to 1100kg.

Like before, as well as being offered as a panel van and cab-chassis, the Volkswagen Transporter will be available as a nine-seater minivan too.

There won’t be a California spin-off of the van; the next-generation camper will be based on the T7 Multivan that sits on VW’s car-like MQB platform.

From launch, Volkswagen may even offer a Sportline version of the T7 Transporter with sports suspension and full body kit.

To be built at Ford’s Otosan factory in Turkey, Volkswagen expects the new Transporter to account for about two-thirds of its global commercial vehicle sales.

More teasers of all-new Volkswagen T7 Transporter’s distinctive styling are expected in the build-up to its September debut.
