Volkswagen has announced pricing for its third-generation Tiguan mid-size SUV, with the model maintaining its competitive local pricing while substantially increasing standard equipment across the range.
The entry-level Tiguan 110TSI Life now starts at $44,990 plus on-road costs (ORCs), representing a $1000 increase over the outgoing model – a relatively modest price bump by today’s standards.
Volkswagen says the pricing of the new Tiguan puts it within striking range of many mainstream Asian mid-size SUVs, potentially including the Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage and Mitsubishi Outlander.
The entry-level variant comes with 19-inch alloy wheels, keyless vehicle access with alarm, a powered tailgate, and a 360-degree parking camera system, along with 12.9-inch infotainment system with satellite navigation and wireless smartphone integration, plus a Digital Cockpit Pro widescreen driver display.
Safety features are comprehensive, including Travel Assist semi-autonomous driving capability, Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, and Side Assist with Rear Traffic Alert.
Moving up the range, the $50,690 plus ORCs Tiguan 110TSI Elegance adds luxury touches including leather-appointed seats with heating, ventilation and massage functions, along with LED Plus headlights with an illuminated grille strip.
For buyers seeking more performance, the Tiguan 150TSI R-Line offers all-wheel drive and a more powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged engine capable of sprinting to 100km/h in 7.1 seconds, starting at $55,990 plus ORCs.
Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Tiguan 195TSI R-Line continues as the performance flagship. Priced at $70,490 plus ORCs, it delivers 195kW and 400Nm to covers the 0-100km/h dash in just 5.9 seconds.
This premium variant comes fully loaded with 20-inch wheels, HD Matrix LED headlights, a larger 15-inch infotainment touch-screen, a head-up display, and a Harman Kardon premium audio system.
Volkswagen's aggressive pricing strategy places the mid-range Tiguan variants directly against mainstream competitors, while the top-spec versions deliver a performance option for those who want all the fruit and more driver engagement.
The medium SUV segment continues to be fiercely contested in Australia, and VW's approach of offering ‘attainable and elevated’ products appears designed to carve out a distinct position between mainstream and premium brands.
The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan line-up follows the firm’s recent strategy of delivering better value in its SUV offerings, mirroring approaches taken with the repositioned Touareg and its new electric ID.4 and ID.5 models.
The brand wants to position itself as what VW's Head of Product, Arjun Nidigallu, calls ‘an elevated mainstream brand’.
“The significant uplift in standard features, safety and infotainment technology is delivered at extremely competitive prices,” he said.
“Customers can confidently cross-shop this vehicle against mainstream rivals at around $55,000 or under, with flagship versions continuing to deliver a unique Volkswagen offering of style, performance and dynamics.”
