Audi has launched two plug-in hybrid versions of its 2026 Audi A6 sedan and 2026 Audi A6 Avant that are claimed to maximise efficiency without compromising on performance or comfort.
Available with either 220kW or 270kW, the new Audi A6 e-hybrid quattro combines a 25.9kWh lithium-ion battery with a 185kW 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a 105kW e-motor.
The 270kW/500Nm version is good for a 0-100km/h sprint of 5.3 seconds and a 250km/h top speed, while the lesser 220kW/450Nm system takes 6.0 seconds to hit 100km/h but has the same limited top speed.
Thanks to a battery that's now 45 per cent more energy dense than before, the A6 e-hybrid quattro sedan can cover up to 106km on a single charge, with a 0-100 per cent top up taking 2.5 hours using an 11kW AC charger.
Said to offer three levels of regenerative braking via the steering wheel-mounted paddles, Audi says its new plug-in tech can harvest more energy than before with the powertrain programmed to run in EV power as much as it can to slash fuel use.
As with most PHEVs, the A6 e-hybrid offers full EV drive mode as well as a dedicated hybrid mode that maintains a specific charge level to deploy the EV power later in the journey.
All models come standard with all-wheel drive and four-wheel steering, plus an electrified dual-clutch transmission.
Comfort has been improved with the use of tightly sealed windows and revised door seals that cuts noise by up to 30 per cent.
Prices for the new plug-in 2026 Audi A6 e-hybrid quattro sedan starts at €68,300 ($A119,500) and stretches to €77,550 ($A135,500) for the 270kW 2026 Audi A6 e-hybrid quattro Avant.
Audi Australia has yet to confirm whether the new plug-in hybrid will join the new-generation Audi A6 sedan and Avant, nor announced when the large sedan and wagon will land in local dealerships.
