New BMW M2 leaked sans camo

First undisguised look at BMW M’s next-gen compact coupe

The third-generation 2023 BMW M2 Coupe has been speculated about for more than two years, as well as spied in the snow, spied on the road, detailed by insiders and even, most recently, officially teased with M Performance parts.

Now, with the world debut of the replacement for BMW M’s smallest full-blown model just a month or so away, it appears our first look at the new G87-series BMW M2 without camouflage comes courtesy of Instagram user @bmw_m_collector via @Wilcoblok.

No fresh info has surfaced alongside this sole image, which at least shows the next BMW M2’s new M Zandvoort Blue hero colour – and the fact that its rear-end will continue with aggressive, traditional BMW M compact coupe design cues.

These include a more aggressive bumper emphasising more prominent rear haunches and housing a prominent rear diffuser enclosing a pair of twin exhaust outlets at either side, plus a subtle bootlid spoiler.

Also evident are staggered-diameter multi-spoke alloy wheels – 19-inch front and 20-inch rear – as seen in previous teaser and spy images, which also reveal a big optional M Performance rear wing will be available. Other options should include a carbonfibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof and M Carbon bucket seats.

Inside, expect the new BMW M2 to score the same concave twin-screen ‘BMW Curved Display’ that will be fitted across the expanding 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe line-up from July, including a 14.9-inch central infotainment screen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, controlled by BMW’s latest iDrive 8 operating system.

Under the bonnet, we expect two mildly detuned version of the M4’s S58 twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight six-cylinder petrol engine – a 306kW/580Nm ‘base’ tune and a gruntier Competition tune offering 321kW – matched to both six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions, and perhaps the option of all-wheel drive at least in some markets.

Both engines should be powerful enough to hurl the new BMW M2 to 100km/h in less than four seconds – the benchmark set by the previous M2 CS (331kW/550Nm).

Production of the all-new 2023 BMW M2 Coupe is due to commence this December, so expect first Australian deliveries in the first half of next year.
