New Citroen C4 Picasso debuts in UK

Citroen's latest MPV hits UK showrooms ahead of 2014 Oz delivery

The latest in Citroen’s MPV line-up, the new C4 Picasso, has gone on sale in the UK this week.

The shorter, wider, lower new model (measuring 4430mm L x 1830mm W x 1610mm H), gives us the closest indication yet of what the Australian-spec variant will look like; the model expected to go on sale here in Q1 next year.

Currently, the only MPV model to be offered by Citroen locally is the seven-seat C4 Grand Picasso, which is priced from $39,490 (plus ORCs).

Boasting Citroen’s new ‘Créative Technologie’ styling, the new C4 Picasso is expressive outside and features a bright, uncluttered interior with more technology and more space than the outgoing model.

Citroen has extracted this addition room via the use of a new PSA EMP2 platform (Efficient Modular Platform 2). It is the first time the architecture has underpinned a Citroen model, and in C4 Picasso, delivers what its maker says is “benchmark” interior space and “class-leading” cargo capacity of 537 litres (VDA).

Lighter than its predecessor by some 140kg, the new C4 Picasso’s more aerodynamic body and efficient engine range is expected to offer a significant reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The highlight of the new model’s drivetrain range is the Euro6-compliant BlueHDi powerplant (from November production), which delivers fuel consumption as low as 3.1L/100km and CO2 emissions of 98g/km. Idle stop-start is fitted to most models.

A new driver interface comes courtesy of a either a 7.0-inch ‘tablet-style’ touchscreen or larger 12.0-inch screen, depending on variant. The screens are configurable and offer a range of infotainment and driver information including climate control, satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, digital radio, cruise control and trip information. It also serves to display acoustic parking information and the image from the reversing camera or optional ‘birds-eye’ camera system.

In the UK, the new C4 Picasso range is priced from £17,500 (AUD$29,440) for the base model VTi 120 petrol, through to £24,455 (AUD$41,140) for the range-topping e-HDi 115 Exclusive+.
