Australia’s Cupra Formentor range will soon have a temporary new flagship in the form of the limited-edition 2023 Cupra Formentor VZx Rojo, of which just 30 examples will come Down Under following a complaint from a disgruntled Aussie customer.
Priced at $66,490 plus on-road costs, the VZx Rojo is finished in vibrant metallic red paint and carries a $2500 premium over its standard counterpart.
“A highly motivated customer has written to myself and Cupra’s global boss Wayne Griffiths over their disappointment that the Formentor VZx hasn’t been available in red,” Cupra Australia director Ben Wilks said.
“Well, your wish is our command.”
The bold new paint finish is paired with a black leather interior as standard, but that’s as far as the cosmetic or specification changes go.
The rest of the package is identical to the regular VZx, meaning highlights include two-tone black and copper 19-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, nine-speaker Beats sound system, a 12-inch infotainment touch-screen and 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
Other headline features comprise a panoramic roof, adaptive cruise control, full LED lighting, three-zone climate control, smartphone mirroring, 360-degree camera, heated and power adjustable front seats, wireless phone charging and adaptive dampers.
Under the bonnet is the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine continuing to churn out 228kW/400Nm, harnessed by a full-time all-wheel drive system and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Orders for the VZx Rojo open today, ahead of customer deliveries between May and June.
Wilks added that the hugely positive market response to the flourishing performance brand had garnered more production allocations for Australia – especially for the Cupra Born electric hatch, which nearly sold out before the first batch had even arrived.
