UPDATE 23/02/2017 11:00am: Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) is available as an option -- not standard -- on high-spec versions of the 2017 Escape.
------------------------------------
The SUV previously known as Ford Kuga has been given the stamp of approval by safety authority ANCAP via a continuation of the full five-star rating based on testing conducted in 2012.
The updated and restyled mid-size SUV, now badged as the Ford Escape, is due to go on sale this month with sharper pricing to compete with the likes of Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson and Toyota RAV4.
The Escape is given a total score of 36.33 points out of a possible 37.
It earned maximum points in side-impact and pole protection tests and scored 15.33 points out of a possible 16 for the frontal offset crash test.
The rebadged Ford Escape SUV comes with dual frontal, side, curtain airbags as well as a driver’s knee airbag as standard equipment. Automatic emergency call (e-Call) and reversing collision avoidance are standard, while low-speed autonomous emergency braking (AEB) is standard on high-spec variants but not available on the entry-level model.
The five-star rating applies to all Escape variants built from September 2016.
