Ford’s all-new Focus range will arrive in Australia from December priced from $25,990 (plus on-road costs).
The Blue Oval’s Australian operation has confirmed price and specification details for the fourth-generation Focus hatchback and the Focus wagon, which will both do away with a manual transmission and significantly ramp up in-car technology and safety.
Entry into the range is now $2600 more than before, and considerably more expensive than rivals including the all-new Toyota Corolla, Mazda3 and Hyundai i30.
On the hatch front, three different trims of the Focus will be offered from launch: Trend ($25,990), ST-Line ($28,990) and Titanium ($34,490).
Standard features on the Trend include 16-inch alloy wheels, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with digital radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SYNC3 infotainment and voice control, LED daytime running lights, single-zone climate control, automatic headlights and wipers, an auto-dimming rear view mirror and six-way driver’s seat manual adjustment.
On the safety front, automated emergency braking (AEB) is standard on the entry model, offering pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep assist, a reversing camera with rear parking sensors, hill-start assist, post-impact braking function, and a full suite of airbags.
Next in the food chain is the ST-Line (pictured), bringing a bespoke honeycomb grille and sportier body kit, 17-inch alloy wheels, sports suspension (with a 10mm lower ride height), headlight cornering function, LED taillights, tinted windows, chrome tailpipes, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start and wireless phone charging.
The ST-Line’s interior trims adopt a sportier bent, with a dark roof lining, flat-bottomed steering wheel, metallic foot pedals and tyre pressure monitor.
In addition, a wagon version of the Focus will be offered in a solitary ST-Line grade, priced at $30,990. It will offer the same suite of standard equipment as the hatch, alongside a luggage area cover, roof rails, quick-folding rear seats and tie-down hooks, for a $2000 premium.
Sitting atop the 2019 Ford Focus line-up is the Titanium grade of the hatch. It adds quasi-luxury features such as LED indicators, automatic high beam, leather upholstery with heated front seats, a nine-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system and configurable ambient cabin lighting.
On the safety front, the Titanium incorporates adaptive cruise control, speed sign recognition, lane centre assist, evasive steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert and adaptive LED headlights.
The same safety package can be packaged on the Trend and ST-Line grades for an additional $1250 charge. There are other optional packs including prestige paint, a $550 charge across the range.
Shared between every 2019 Ford Focus variant is a new 1.5-litre EcoBoost three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. Outputs are rated at 134kW and 240Nm, with drive sent to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Ford Australia is yet to release official fuel consumption data. Officially, it’s the same turbo three-pot as what’s in store for the 2019 Ford Fiesta ST.
Sitting on a 50mm longer wheelbase, the German-built Focus offers more passenger space than before along with more luggage space.
