Ford has released pictures and full specification of its all-new third-generation Galaxy seven-seater.
Following on from the slightly smaller, more style-orientated S-Max that was revealed last September, the new Galaxy sports a new classier look, more luxury features, class-leading safety technology and new trick power rear-fold third-row seats.
New advanced new technologies are the biggest improvements in the new seven-seat Ford over the old model.
The Galaxy receives an Intelligent Speed Limiter that automatically slows the car when it scans new speed limit signs. The big people mover also gains autonomous braking and new LED headlamps technology.
Under the bonnet there’s the choice of two petrols - a 119kW 1.5-litre turbo and a 179kW 2.0-litre turbo. On the diesel side there’s one 2.0-litre with 90kW, 112kW and 134kW.
For the first time the Galaxy will be offered with an adaptive steering rack that quickens the steering’s ratios depending on where you are.
Inside, there’s a new 10-inch infotainment system that comes with Ford’s latest Sync 2 system. It can also be customised.
Drivers also benefit from new driving aids like adaptive lights, cross traffic alert and a front split-view camera.
In the UK pricing is expected to kick off at £27,000 ($A50,000) when it goes on sale this winter.
Despite the relative success of the Kia Rondo here, Ford Australia says its “position hasn't changed" in regards of whether the new Galaxy or S-Max will be imported. In other words it won’t.
Blame lack of interest in people movers.
Instead, Ford will rely on the new Ranger-inspired Everest SUV as its only seven-seat offering for large families.
