New Ford Ranger wait times blow out

COVID strikes again as China parts manufacturing slows down Thai production of new Ranger ute

The waiting list for the new-generation 2022 Ford Ranger has just grown longer.

Parts manufacturing delays in China triggered by COVID-19 have slowed the production of the new Ranger in Thailand.

While the Australian launch of the Ranger is still scheduled for June, the supply of vehicles will be slowed, extending waiting times for some people who have already placed orders.

A Ford dealer bulletin titled ‘Ranger Allocation and Production Delay’ published on the web has revealed the issue.

“Next Gen Ranger Q2 production has been negatively impacted as a result of some major cities in China now being under COVID lockdown,” the bulletin stated.

“Unfortunately, a portion of the expected Q2 production volume will need to be re-calendarised, with detailed impact to production expected to be available over the next fortnight.

“For context, the China COVID lockdown has affected 91 suppliers and 393 unique parts utilised on Next Gen Ranger.

“The production loss from Q2 has delayed the anticipated timing of the April allocation (for July production) as we assess the latest information available and is now expected on … Thursday, 28th April.

“As a flow-on effect of production loss from Q2, a portion of the April dealer allocation (for July production) will now need to be dedicated to build existing dealer orders from earlier allocations, decreasing the volume available to allocate to dealers in April.”

Ford recently announced pricing for the new generation Ford Ranger, which now includes a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 in higher-grade models and a twin-turbo petrol V6 Ranger Raptor flagship.
