BYD will predictably be a headline act at the upcoming Beijing motor show, and one of the most important models it will display, in terms of mass market appeal, will be the third-generation Atto 3. Known as the Yuan Plus in its home country, the new model has been teased ahead of its global debut and looks to be taking on a boxier theme.

Details aren’t especially plentiful right now, but BYD has at least confirmed the inclusion of its ‘Flash Charging’ technology as well as far more aggressive and muscular design.
Chinese homologation data previously revealed the body to measure 4665mm long, 1895mm wide and 1675mm tall, perched on a 2770mm wheelbase – bigger in every dimension its predecessor.
It will also switch from front- to rear-wheel drive, nab more powerful motors (200kW or 240kW) and come with a choice of second-generation Blade batteries: 57.55kWh and 68.55kWh – the unofficial CLTC ranges are 540km and 630km respectively.

BYD Australia is yet to publicly announce any interest in the third-gen Atto 3, however it’s been reported the Atto 3 Evo, as seen in the UK, could be introduced Down Under in the interim.
The latest update of the second generation, the British-spec Evo features a 74.8kWh battery pack and offers the choice of a rear- or all-wheel drive powertrain, the former being a 230kW/380Nm single-motor setup and the latter a 330kW/560Nm system good for 507km and 470km of WLTP range respectively.
