Sleek new style for Honda’s iconic Civic five-door hatch that’s coming to Australia later this yearWe’ve seen the all-new Honda Civic sedan in full, but – up until now – only official darkened silhouette shots of the incoming new Honda Civic hatch that’ll be the only version sold in Australia.
Mirroring trademark filing images that surfaced late last year, the photos you see here were snapped during a pre-release video shoot by a Youtuber and posted on the Civic11 forum, essentially breaking the June 24 embargo.
If it wasn’t clear before, we can now categorically state that the new-generation 2021 Honda Civic hatch will carry a slightly edgier design and, on some variants at least, will have pronounced exhaust outlets that could indicate more powerful engines are on their way.
Other details we can glean from the photos include considerably different LED tail-lights compared to the sedan, which can also be seen on the left of the main photo.
Featuring an evolution of the current hatchback’s rear-end design, the C-shaped LED tail-lights are incorporated into a more mature, conservatively-styled rump.
The front-end will closely resemble the sedan, showing off a simpler, cleaner shape than before.
The 11th-generation Honda Civic hatchback is set to arrive in Australia before the end of 2021 and will also form the basis for the next-generation Civic Type R, which is set employ an electrified version of its rorty 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.
Expect hybrid versions for standard Civic models too, with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine augmented by a small electric motor and battery for an estimated combined output of 100kW/250Nm.
When the new Civic arrives in Australia it will also bring an upmarket cabin, sporting either a 7.0- or 9.0-inch central touch-screen and, on high-end models, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.
Entry-level pricing is expected to rise over the current baseline of $23,790 (plus on-road costs), while range-topping variants will likewise eclipse the current marker of $35,790 plus ORCs.
Production of the $54,990 Civic Type R has now ended and dealers are no longer taking orders.
