The all-new 2024 Honda CR-V will arrive in Australia this September priced from $44,500 drive-away and available in seven different guises, including a new e:HEV RS flagship priced at $59,900.
The $44.5K opening figure applies to the entry-level Honda CR-V VTi X and marks a $5600 price increase compared to its current-generation predecessor, however, Honda has long promised a significant step-up in technology and safety.
At the other end of the spectrum is the new e:HEV RS flag-bearer, which marks the first application of Honda’s predominantly electric-drive hybrid technology in the CR-V.
Between the two bookends will be the VTi X7, VTi L, VTi L AWD, VTi L7 and VTi LX AWD grades, all powered by Honda’s familiar 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, which in this application develops 142kW/243Nm.
The same powertrain resides under the bonnet of the base model VTi X variant, and drive is sent to either the front or all four wheels via a continuously variable transmission across the board.
Those chasing a bit more oomph from their five- or seven-seat medium SUV will probably be tempted by the e:HEV’s superior 152kW/335Nm outputs, which come courtesy of an Atkinson-cycle 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and a pair of electric motors.
But the electrified powertrain is only being offered at the top of the tree and without the option of all-wheel drive.
The lack of all-paw grip for the sole CR-V hybrid puts it at a disadvantage compared to both of its major rivals, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and Nissan X-TRAIL e-POWER, as well as the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid AWD – all of which can be had in sub-flagship forms.
Still, the e:HEV RS advertises its flagship identity via an exclusive ‘sporty design’ headlined by body-coloured front and rear bumpers, black grille with RS emblem and black leather-appointed upholstery contrasted with red stitching.
Trim-specific specification details for the other grades will be announced in the coming weeks now that pre-orders have opened ahead of the new CR-V’s official on-sale date of September 1.
Honda Australia director Carolyn McMahon said the new CR-V had “evolved with family needs and offers everything” customers loved “about the outgoing model and more”.
“For the first time in Australia, we will be launching the all-new CR-V with an e:HEV Hybrid powertrain,” she said.
“This addition to Honda Australia’s line up will strengthen our hybrid offering and provide customers even more choice when considering their next Honda purchase.”
Customers will have the choice of up to six colours for their new CR-V, including Platinum White, Lunar Silver, Meteoroid Grey, Ignite Red, Crystal Black and Canyon River Blue.
