Honda has continued to preview its forthcoming new 2023 Honda CR-V, this time revealing the sixth-generation mid-size SUV’s modern interior design ahead of its official unveiling on July 12.
Every element of the current CR-V’s ageing but ultimately functional cockpit has been altered, with the dashboard topped by a crisp new infotainment interface.
Further down the centre stack is a set of mesh-covered air vents, below which are climate controls and storage facilities with a wireless smartphone charging pad and connectivity points.
The gear selector has been moved from the dash to the centre console, flanked down one side by an electronic park brake switch, auto-hold, hill descent control button and drive mode toggle.
Interestingly, there’s no conventional cup holders visible in the single image Honda has released. They might appear if the console box lid can slide back, but we’ll reserve judgement for now.
The driver is treated to a completely redesigned steering wheel with thinner spokes, better layout and a more attractive finish than the frumpy unit fitted to the current model.
Behind the new tiller is a digital instrument cluster, though it remains to be seen if all variants or only the higher grades come as standard with this feature.
Described by Honda as being “more premium, comfortable and high-tech”, the modernised dash aesthetic complements the new CR-V’s sharpened exterior styling previewed last month via a series of close-up images.
These photos came nine days after the full design was leaked online, revealing a Honda HR-V-inspired look, full of uninterrupted lines and slim features – just like the interior.
The new model is also expected to be bigger than its predecessor and has already been confirmed to feature at least one hybrid powertrain.
