New Hyundai i30 N-Line sedan revealed with hybrid power

Hyundai’s upgraded sporty small car due later this year set to offer hybrid powertrain option

The upgraded 2024 Hyundai i30 N-Line sedan has been officially revealed in South Korea, where the sports-themed small car will be available with a new 1.6-litre hybrid powertrain, among a broad range of cosmetic, equipment and mechanical updates.

Emerging almost three months after an online leak in its home market, the Hyundai i30 N-Line sedan is due to launch in Australia in the fourth quarter of this year as part of a range-wide overhaul for the popular series.

Australian cars will continue to be powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine good for 150kW/265Nm, however Hyundai now has the option of offering the 1.6-litre petrol-electric hybrid powerplant (103kW/265Nm) in our market with N-Line for the first time.

The company has already committed to offering hybrid power in the updated i30 sedan range Down Under, but hasn’t confirmed model grades or other local details.

Given N and N-Line products now account for almost a third of all Hyundai sales in Australia, we expect an electrified i30 N-Line sedan will follow its hybrid-powered Kona SUV stablemate into showrooms.

Unlike other Hyundai N-Line models, which are largely differentiated by cosmetic treatment and equipment packs, the i30 N-Line sedan will continue to offer a more sophisticated multi-link rear suspension and sportier tuning.

Korean specifications show the multi-link rear-end will be present on all hybrid variants, but we’re anticipating they’ll feature a softer suspension tune overall.

Differences between the official reveal images and leaked photos published in May extend primarily to the alloy wheel design, with the two-tone five-spoke rims on the leaked vehicle swapped out for two new sets of black N-branded hoops – shod with Hankook Ventus S1 rubber as opposed to the current Goodyear Eagle F1s.

Also due in showrooms late this year is the facelifted i30 N sedan flagship, more details of which have just been released by Hyundai HQ in Korea.

Headline changes include a move to an electronic park brake, adoption of heated rear seats and Digital Key compatibility.

Other new features include the N Sound Equaliser (synthetic engine noise) and a bunch of new optional N Performance parts and packs designed to increase performance and comfort: Carbon Exterior, Alcantara Interior, high-performance intake, carbon exhaust tips, upgraded brakes and two sets of forged alloys.
