The 2021 Kia Carnival that enters showrooms this month will start from $46,880 plus on-road costs, marking a rise of $3690 at the entry level as the Korean brand’s top-selling eight-seater people-mover enters its fourth generation.
The price hike reflects significant improvements across the board for the bigger and more sophisticated new Kia Carnival, including a more powerful and economical 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine (216kW/355Nm) that replaces the previous 3.3-litre unit (206kW/336Nm).
The 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel (148kW/440Nm) carries over from the previous model with just 1kW more power. Maximum torque is unchanged.
The model line-up sticks with S, Si, SLi and Platinum trim levels available across both petrol and diesel powertrains, with all petrol variants incurring the $3690 price hike and the diesels climbing $3190.
Both engines are fitted standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission, with each diesel engine variant positioned $2000 upstream of the equivalent petrol.
This sees the range now top out at $66,680 plus ORCs for the diesel-powered Platinum variant, while premium paint adds $695 across the board.
Kia Australia has also issued national drive-away pricing for the new Carnival, which adds about $3500 to the recommended retail price. See our full pricing table below.
Full specification details will be released later this week, but the Korean car-maker claims the new-generation Kia Carnival – which is based on the same platform as the latest Kia Sorento large SUV – “offers more value, space, refinement and capability than its predecessors and any current challengers”.
Kia Australia also said today that the new model has “style and sophistication to rival even its most aggressive SUV challengers” and that it remains “the most sensible and desirable choice for anyone prioritising space, comfort and safety”.
“The design journey of the new Carnival has moved closer to a stylish SUV-like profile, reflecting the all-new Sorento, particularly in the side and front profiles from the C-pillar forward,” the company said.
“The distinctive people-mover styling becomes more evident from the rear.”
As carsales has reported, among the highlights of the roomier and apparently quieter Carnival’s cabin – as seen on top-spec overseas models – is a dual 12.3-inch panoramic LCD screen layout running across the dashboard, delivering a digital instrument panel for the driver along with the latest infotainment system, complete with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Kia also promises that “an extensive range of both passive and active safety and driver assistance systems” will be fitted too.
Stay tuned for more details and our first drive of the new-generation Kia Carnival in the days ahead.
