New Kia Sportage: Australian pricing

Kia’s new-gen mid-size SUV starts $2000 higher than before and now stretches out beyond $52K

Local pricing for the all-new 2022 Kia Sportage has hit Kia Australia’s website today, with the fifth-generation mid-size SUV starting from $32,445 plus on-road costs – or $34,690 drive-away.

The new starting figure marks an entry-price increase of $1955 compared to the outgoing Sportage, with prices across the range rising by between $1710 and $2410 depending on the variant.

The new range also extends beyond $50K, maxing out at $52,370 plus ORCs for the flagship GT-Line diesel.

Diesel power is available in all trim levels but carries with it a hefty $5400 premium over the base 2.0-litre petrol engine (automatic), however the extra outlay is offset somewhat by the standard inclusion of all-wheel drive.

The base petrol is also available with a six-speed manual transmission in S and SX form, which saves another $2000 compared to the diesel.

Stepping up to the SX+ model grade adds the option of a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine which splits the other two powerplants on price in being $2000 more expensive than the base engine but still $3400 cheaper than the diesel.

At the top of the range, the lavish GT-Line is available with either the force-fed 1.6-litre petrol or the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel, however the margin between the two drops to $3000.

As carsales has reported, standard equipment highlights on the base S trim include 17-inch alloy wheels, multi-connection Bluetooth compatibility, an 8.0-inch infotainment touch-screen, LED headlights and autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with junction turn assist as well as car, cyclist and pedestrian recognition.

The SX adds bigger 18-inch alloys, satellite navigation accessed via a larger 12.3-inch display, dual-zone climate control and a remote-folding second row.

The SX+ goes one step further with 19-inch alloys, a Harman Kardon premium sound system, artificial leather upholstery, heated seats, keyless start and power tailgate.

The flagship GT-Line adds a curved 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, genuine leather seats with heating and cooling in the front, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, 360-degree camera and a sunroof, among other things.

Due to go on sale in the coming weeks, keep an eye out for our full Kia Sportage launch coverage next week.
