The facelifted 2023 Peugeot 508 has been revealed ahead of the premium mid-size sedan and wagon’s mid-year launch in Europe.
Australian launch timing and line-up details are still to be announced for the upgraded Peugeot 508 liftback and Sportwagon, which adopt the French brand’s new frameless grille design as seen on the Peugeot 408 crossover.
They also feature a more aggressive front lighting arrangement as well as an enlarged lower air intake.
The flagship Peugeot Sport Engineered (PSE) model takes things a step further with a more chiselled front bumper and extra black trim around the front fascia.
The bolder new look for all variants is continued at the rear-end with more of the same: sharper angles, angry ‘claw’ lighting signatures and smoked light surrounds.
Inside, there’s a redesigned centre console and dashboard that’s dominated by a new 10-inch infotainment system featuring the latest Peugeot i-Connect Advanced operating system, connected navigation, natural language voice recognition, wireless connectivity and over-the-air update capabilities.
Drivers are greeted by a compact multifunction steering wheel behind which resides a fully configurable 12-inch digital instrument cluster.
The interior ambience is emphasised further by the new button-based gear selector and clutter-free centre console, which rises to meet the dash just underneath the infotainment screen.
In terms of technology upgrades, the 508 range now features Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities and a new night vision camera that can detect animals, cyclists and pedestrians along the roadside.
Under the bonnet is a combination of familiar and new powertrains comprising three plug-in hybrids, two petrol engines and one diesel.
The new powertrain is a 134kW PHEV comprising a 110kW 1.6-litre petrol engine, 84kW electric motor and 12.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
The other propulsion options have been carried over unchanged and range from 97kW through to 268kW in the PSE AWD, with an eight-speed automatic fitted across the range.
A Peugeot Citroen Australia spokesperson has told carsales that local details of the new 508 range, including pricing and timing, will be communicated in due course and that there were no updates on the local business case for the PSE.
